Ian McEwan’s “Most Epic Book to Date” to be Published in September
Booker prize-winning author Ian McEwan has a new novel coming out in September, and publishing director Michal Shavit, who acquired the novel, says it’s the author’s “most epic book to date.” The new novel Lessons follows the story of Roland Baines from his time at an “unusual” boarding school at the age of 11, to his adulthood where his wife disappears, leaving Roland alone to care for his young son. McEwan’s publisher Jonathan Cape described the book as “a powerful meditation on history and humanity told through the prism of one man’s lifetime.”
Ebony Inks a Deal with Sourcebooks
Sourcebooks has inked a deal with Ebony Magazine Publishing to publish Ebony-branded books. The goal is to release four to eight books a year under the partnership. “This collaboration will celebrate the broad spectrum of Black voices through powerful fiction and nonfiction stories with authors who represent and speak to the full spectrum of our culture,” Lavaille Lavette, president and publisher of Ebony Magazine Publishing, said in a statement. The first nonfiction book, entitled Black Hollywood: Reimagining Iconic Movie Moments, is set to release in October. The first novel to be published under the deal will be the first book in Eriq La Salle’s Martyr Maker crime thriller series. The book Laws of Depravity, which was previously self-published, will be released in November. The second novel in the series Laws of Wrath was also initially self-published and will be rereleased under the Ebony deal. The third novel Laws of Annihilation will be new.
