New Releases
Frank Lee: After Alcatraz by David Hasteda and Ludovic Chesnot
Frank Lee escaped from the otherwise inescapable Alcatraz Island in 1962, most likely dying in the attempt. This speculative graphic novel imagines what Lee’s life might have been like had he survived and returned to the real world.
Batman Detective Comics Vol. 2: Fear State by Mariko Tamaki and Dan Mora
In Batman Detective Comics Vol. 1: The Neighborhood, we were introduced to a new mayor for Gotham City and a rich man out for vengeance — and neither of them much liked Batman. Now, their plans against the Dark Knight will either come to fruition or be superseded by another, more “Vile” scheme that will turn Batman into what he hates most.

Riot Recommendations
Today’s Riot Rec theme is: French history! Today is Bastille Day, so let’s look at a couple of comics that deal with different eras in French history!
The Butcher of Paris by Stephanie Phillips and Dean Kotz
Even as the Nazis took over Paris, another threat emerged: Marcel Petiot, who took advantage of the chaos by offering desperate refugees safe passage abroad and then murdering them. No one knows how many people he killed, but the total number is probably around 60.
Rose of Versailles, Vol. 1 by Riyoko Ikeda
Set during the reign of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette, this manga tells the story of Oscar, a young woman whose nobleman father raised her as a son. Oscar is in charge of Marie Antoinette’s palace guards, giving her a front-row seat to the extravagance, ineptitude, and greed that would eventually lead to the downfall of one of the world’s oldest and most powerful empires.
Enjoy the rest of your Thursday, and I’ll “see” you all again next week!
